Session with Prof. Durga Prasad Sangroula and Prof. Nils Ruther from Technical University of Munich
Prof. Durga Prasad Sangroula

Prof. Dr. Durga Prasan Sangroula is the Principal of Advanced College of Engineering and Management (ACEM). With a career spanning 32 years at the Institute of Engineering (IOE), Tribhuvan University, he holds expertise in water resources and sedimentation engineering. Dr. Sangroula earned his MSc with honors in Water Resources Engineering from the former USSR, an additional MSc in Hydropower Development and Management from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), and a Ph.D. from NTNU. Throughout his tenure at IOE, Pulchowk Campus, he served as Deputy Head of the Civil Engineering Department and Campus Chief. Dr. Sangroula has also contributed as a short-term consultant for organizations such as the World Bank and Asian Development Bank, and has actively participated in national and international seminars, presenting over a dozen papers. Additionally, he has authored two textbooks on Hydraulics and Fluid Mechanics.
Prof. Nils Ruther

Prof. Nils Ruther has accumulated over 15 years of expertise in hydraulic and sediment transport engineering in rivers and hydro power reservoirs. His research focuses on 3D numerical modeling of hydraulics and sediment transport in fluvial environments, and he has contributed to advancements in measurement technology for sediment transport quantification. Prof. Nils applies his research insights to engineering projects related to river engineering and hydro power design, including recent involvement in a sediment management project at hydro power plants.
Having served as the Head of the Hydraulic Engineering research group at the Department of Hydraulic and Environmental Engineering from 2011 to 2016, Prof. Nils has leadership experience. He also participated in strategic research planning groups at NTNU. Throughout his academic career, he supervised numerous postdoctoral, Ph.D., MSc, and BSc students, resulting in successful outcomes for several. His work is reflected in over 14 peer-reviewed journal publications and over 25 conference papers, and he has served as a reviewer for various reputable journals.
Prof. Nils is responsible for two Master-level courses, namely Hydraulic Design of Hydro Power Plants and Headworks and Sedimentation Engineering in the Hydro Power Development course at his department.
Prof. Durga Prasad Sangroula and Prof. Nils Ruther from Technical University of Munich will be giving a presentation each other 7 different presentation topics by the students of Prof. Nils to share their idea, knowledge and understanding of water resources within the context of Nepal.
